Family Festival Event Spotlight - Duty Calls: The Battle of Britain

Family Festival Event Spotlight - Duty Calls: The Battle of Britain

We’re lucky enough to have James Holland joining us at Lennoxlove this year. As well as his adult session, James will be entertaining and educating our younger audience with his event supporting his new book, Duty Calls: Battle of Britain the second book in the blockbuster Duty Calls series for 11+.  This time Holland throws the reader deep into the heart – and horror – of Britain’s darkest and finest hour.

Pilot Officer Archie Jackson, 19, is in control of the RAF’s newest fighter aircraft: a Supermarine Spitfire. The Luftwaffe are in his sights, and only one thing matters: defending Britain. Suddenly planes are falling from the sky, exploding and spiralling into the English Channel. France has fallen, and the swastika flies over Occupied Europe. Only these young pilots – barely out of boyhood – stand between Britain and a Nazi invasion…

James is making this an interactive happening! He’s bringing all manner of artefacts with him; you’ll be able to take a look at bits of a Messerschmitt 109, several bullets and cannon shells (we hope he’ll be able to get them on the plane with him!) James is also bringing some WW2 clothing; flying jackets, helmets, boots and goggles – you might even get a chance to try some of the uniform on!

It’s sure to be an excellent event and will certainly light a passion for history in anyone who attends.
